CAT 2018 Eligibility Criteria

As per the eligibility criteria of CAT 2018 entrance exam specified by IIMs, candidates should fulfill the following parameters

  • Candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University or Institute.

  • General and OBC-NC category candidates should obtain at least 50 percent marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA.
  • For reserved category candidates, the minimum percentage to secure is 45
  • The duration of the graduation programme should be minimum three years
  • Final year graduation students are also eligible to apply for CAT 2018 provided they complete their programme within the stipulated schedule
  • Age Limit - There is no age limit for applying or appearing in CAT 2018

CAT 2018 Exam Pattern

CAT 2018 Entrance exams will be of 3 hours & 100 questions. CAT 2018 exam will be Computer based exam. The candidates cannot choose any section to start with or switch from one section to another. They will have to follow the question paper chronologically, from section 1-3. The chronology of the sections will be Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude.

 In CAT 2018, there is a slight change as the number of MCQs may be reduced and the number of key-in questions will be increased.

Total marks of CAT 2018 paper will be 300. Each question will carry 3 marks. There will be negative marking of -1 for each wrong answer. There will be no deduction of marks In case a candidate chooses not to attempt a given question then there will be no deduction of marks.

 CAT 2018 results will be declared in the second week of January 2019 as per the official notification by IIM Calcutta.

CAT 2018 admit card will be available for download from 25th October 2018  till the examination date. Registered Aspirants can download their CAT 2018 admit cards by using their login ID and Password.

Aspirants need to follow below-mentioned steps to download their admit card.

·         Visit the official website

·         Enter the registration ID and password

·         Once logged in, click on CAT 2018 Admit Card tab

·         Download the admit card

·         Take a print out of the admit card

The admit card will carry the following details:

·         Candidate’s name

·         Category

·         DOB

·         Registration Number

·         Date and time of the exam

·         Instructions regarding exam

The candidates must check the information printed on the admit card and in case of any error, must immediately contact the exam conducting body to get it rectified or obtain a duplicate card.

Paste a recent passport size color photograph on the admit card and sign it.

Candidates appearing for the exam must ensure that they preserve the admit card even till the end of the admission process.

Candidates also need to carry an identity proof along with the admit card to the exam center. They are advised not to carry mobile phone, calculator, IPad or any other gadget to the exam hall. Anybody found carrying any such article will be barred from the exam.

Top B-schools including IIMs and other top MBA institutes will be announced their cat 2018 cutoffs on the basis of percentile scores of the aspirants after the declaration of CAT results in the 2nd week of January 2019.

IIM’s cutoffs are announced at the time of announcing their admission policy for 2019-21 batchCandidates who qualify, are invited by the IIMs to participate in GD/PI. The GD/PI is conducted in the months of February and March, while offers of admission letters are issued to successful candidates in April and May.

Admissions are conducted by the institutes individually on the basis of group discussion and personal interview (GD/PI). For CAT 2018 Minimum cut off marks and Selection criteria are also fixed individually by each institute. The admission procedure begins by IIMs only after the declaration of result.

Basic eligibility criteria for admission in all 20 IIMs is 50% marks in graduation and CAT scores. But that’s not enough, The candidate must score above the CAT cut-off marks fixed for that year.

There are three parameters to get admission in IIMs i.e. CAT 2018 score, group discussion and personal interview and academic records. Minimum cut-offs of the IIMs generally over 90 percentile for General candidates, which means, those who will score above 90 percentile in CAT 2018 will be eligible to apply, and much lower for reserved category students. Cut-offs of newer IIMs range between 80-60 percentile.

If the academic performance does not match the cat performance then the candidates who scored 99 percentile will also get rejected.
